Aaron Rich - Searching for a Match in the LAPL and Hollywood Studio Picture Collections
As American film production companies developed in the early-twentieth century, they assembled picture-based research libraries that collected, organized and distributed illustrated materials to filmmakers who reproduced or alluded to such pictures in their movies. These Hollywood pioneers leaned heavily on a tradition in Western libraries to gather images for patrons to reference along with text-based books. This talk will explore the history of some of these picture collections and their use, along with an exploration of archival research in Los Angeles including useful practices.
